04 / We care about the reef
The islands are our workplace. The reef is part of it.
Krabi's beauty is not something we want to use up.
Why this matters to a boat operator
Barracudas Tour has been taking guests to the islands off Ao Nang, Krabi since 1992. The coral reefs, marine life, beaches and islands that bring people here are living ecosystems. Responsible tourism means keeping our own impact as low as we can, and helping guests understand why what they do in the water matters.
Green Fins and Reef Watch
Barracudas takes part in Green Fins environmental training and Reef Watch monitoring, which helps our team understand responsible snorkelling practices and keep track of the condition of the reefs we visit.
Our company completed the Green Fins and Reef Watch Monitoring Training at Phi Phi Island, Krabi on 24 May 2025, alongside other Krabi operators, and holds the certificate of participation for it. The training was run with Thailand's Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and the Thailand Development Research Institute, facilitated by The Reef-World Foundation, which coordinates Green Fins internationally.
Green Fins is an international programme focused on reducing the environmental impact of diving and snorkelling tourism. Its Reef Watch programme provides a simple method for recording information about reef health and how it changes over time, and the data helps monitor coral reef conditions.
What responsible tourism means on our boats
For us it comes down to a short list, and most of it is about where you put your fins.
- Respecting coral and marine life
- Avoiding unnecessary contact with the reef
- Following responsible snorkelling practices
- Monitoring reef conditions
- Briefing our crew and our guests
- Leaving the islands as we found them, or better
