05 / No shopping stops

You came for Krabi, not a jewellery showroom

Some island tours have a second itinerary hidden between the lines of the first one.

The stop that is not on the itinerary

A beach. A viewpoint. A jewellery shop. A souvenir store. Another sales stop. It is a common way to run a day tour, and the arithmetic behind it is simple: the seat is cheap because the shopping stop pays for it, and the hours you thought you were buying on the water go somewhere else.

Barracudas Tour does not do it. We have run island trips out of Ao Nang, Krabi since 1992, and a Barracudas day tour goes to the islands on your itinerary and nowhere else. There are no jewellery shops, no souvenir stores, no latex or pearl showrooms, and no commercial stops built into the day.

Nothing is sold on the boat

The second half of this matters just as much. Once you are on board, our guides are not working a second job as salespeople. They do not offer excursions for tomorrow, photo packages, equipment upgrades or a better seat on the way back.

There is no collection at the last stop either. The only money you will be asked for on the day is the government National Marine Park entrance fee, which is a published government charge rather than ours, and we tell you the exact amount before you book.

What we do with the time instead

A day is only so long. Taking a shopping stop out of it does not add an island, it adds time at the islands you were already going to.

Swim. Snorkel. Take photographs. Eat lunch. Lie on the beach. Do absolutely nothing at all. That is what the day is for, and it is the whole reason you booked a boat rather than a shuttle.

How to check any operator, including us

If you are comparing tours, the useful questions are short ones. Does the itinerary list every stop, including the ones that are not islands? Is anything sold on board? What exactly is collected in cash on the day, and how much?

A price that looks lower than ours is worth a second look. Check whether the marine park fee, lunch, insurance and the hotel transfer are inside it, and whether the day includes a stop you did not ask for.
